Position(s) – Process Engineer
Responsibilities
- Daily monitoring and analysis of operating data and performance for all areas of the plant, including the quality of finished products
- Technical assistance to operations teams in problem solving and root cause analysis (RCA)
- Production optimization (from design to implementation)
- Development and maintenance of operating procedures
- Development and maintenance of flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
- Liaison with project managers, AEM R&D team and external consultants
- Process design, sizing, specification and equipment selection
- Planning and coordination of commissioning
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (chemical or other applicable specialty such as metallurgical, mineralurgical, mechanical, etc.)
- Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec, or the possibility of becoming one
- 2-5 years of experience in chemical or metallurgical process engineering
- Bilingualism (French & English) both oral and written (an asset)
- Knowledge of AutoCad & SysCad software (an asset)

Chemistry or process engineering technologist
Advanced Energy Minerals (AEM) owns and operates the Cap-Chat HPA Process Plant, located in Quebec, Canada. The Cap-Chat plant uses the patented Chlorine Leach, Crystallization Purification (“CLCP”) process to make 99.999% (5N) High Purity Alumina (“HPA”). AEM aims to be the preferred supplier of HPA to the world’s new EV-LIB giga-factories. In addition, AEM works to commercialize its technology towards extraction of rare earth elements from industrial waste like red mud, fly ash and magnets.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chemistry or process engineering technologist who will work in AEM’s Technology Development Center (CDT) in Technoparc Montréal (St-Laurent, Quebec). The selected candidate will directly work with a team of experienced professional and technical staff responsible for R&D. The R&D group is responsible for improving existing product, processes and formulating new products. The R&D work is a hands-on job working directly with bench and pilot scale unit operations. The R&D group is an important part of AEM internal growth strategy and therefore the successful candidate will interact with many facets of the company.
Job Description: Under the authority of the Technical Director, the successful candidate is responsible for supporting AEM’s operations and research and development activities.
Main responsibilities
- Participate in the assembly of pilot systems and test benches
- Operation of test benches and pilot systems for chemical and metallurgical processes
- Problem solving and system optimization
- Execute tests according to a detailed experimental plan
- Participate in technology transfer and the startup of new equipment and systems
Qualifications and skills required
- Relevant experience in the chemical, metallurgical or pharmaceutical industry
- DEC in chemical, petrochemical, or metallurgical engineering or DEC in process chemistry; considered an asset
- Strong skills in assembly and instrumentation and control
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills
- Mastery of the French language (speaking and writing)

Senior R&D Researcher
Essential Functions
- Developing new products and improving existing ones.
- Conducting experiments in the bench/pilot scale and preparing the reports.
- Working closely with sale and engineering departments.
- Working with analytical laboratory equipment and analyzing results.
- Updating the intellectual property of the company.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Required Skills
- MSc or PhD in Materials Science, Ceramic, Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering and over 5 years of experience in a related field;
- Knowledge for the art and science of mineralogical processes (hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical) like digestion, crystallization and calcination;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal collaboration skills;
- Willingness to learn new technologies;
- Ability to write clear and concise reports, communicate with peers, managers and subordinates, and show supervisory skill of both people and projects;
- Familiar with software (COMSOL, ASPEN, AutoCAD, Matlab, …) is a plus;
- Familiar with analytical techniques (ICP, TGA, BET, PSD analyzer, …);
- Perform and/or supervise laboratory work.;
